Climate Express in four slogans
Climate Express is a growing group of enthusiastic
Politically unrestrained, we strive for a firm and collaborative
approach to climate issues.
At the end of this year, crucial international climate negotiations are taking place in Paris. The climate movement will also come together at this point. For two weeks, from 29 November until 13 December, we are going to flood the French capital in order to help determine the political agenda. Climate Express ensures that you can be there too! We start it all off with a massive Climate March and finish the summit with a powerful example of creative resistance during the Climate Games. We are going to get at least 10,000 Belgians there - by train, by bike and by coach.
We are doing this because there is an alternative! Initiatives that are positive for the climate and society spring out of the ground on a daily basis. However, our individual efforts are not enough. For real change we all have to work together. It is essential that there is a societal change: people and environment, not profit, must be our guiding values.
At the moment this is not the case. For years, the political sphere has been under great pressure from lobby groups to stick to the outdated system of fossil fuels. And this has worked! The result: more and more for fewer and fewer people. By coming out on the street en masse, we can change the balance and make the decision-makers change course, to head towards somewhere where there is a future.
Climate Express builds on the strong climate movement that will decide the course together. The climate summit in Paris is the moment to speak out as one and let the whole world hear our voice. But the fight for a united and decisive approach to the climate problem will not be won in one day. After Paris we will also build upon our growing movement further. Together we are the strong wind that will blow away fossil fuels!
In the beginning there was Warsaw
November 2013. Eight hundred enthusiastic, committed and engaged people boarded a specially laid-on train at Brussels-Zuid/Midi. Their destination? The international climate negotiations in Warsaw. The climate train was a source of inspiration and positive energy. From all of this energy emerged a train that keeps travelling to a socially and environmentally just world. Next stop: Paris!
The core team consists of the president, two vice-presidents and the secretary. This group meets weekly and is concerned with the smooth functioning of Climate Express as a whole. They prepare the meetings of the locomotive and support the working groups.

The campaign team is organising different actions in the lead up to the climate summit in Paris under the positive vibe of #movetheclimate.
How do we get a very diverse public to come with us to Paris? How do we ensure that there are as few obstacles as possible for difficult-to-reach target groups, such as deprived people, older people, families with young children, etc? These are the questions that the network team is tackling. This team is looking to connect with a wide variety of groups.
The promo team ensures visibility for Climate Express at various nice festivals/camps/network events and with a wide range of organisations.
Road to Paris
The 'Road to Paris' working group is a practical working group. They have investigated in detail how we can get 10,000 enthusiastic people to Paris: by land, by sea or by train…? They are looking at which routes we can take and how long this will take us. Furthermore, they are looking to make connections with local groups on the way for accommodation, food and to generate a good atmosphere.

The working group Interaction is an international collaboration to prepare actions together. Its aims are to find out what is currently happening in the international climate movement, build bridges between international organisations, and to reach, motivate and inspire more people.

The Atelier is a working group that is focused on mobilisation of French-speaking Belgium. In close collaboration with the communication, promo, campaign and network working groups, they have developed a strategy suited to the French-language context, and want to attend events in the south of Belgium. In short, the Atelier is a contact point for French-speaking organisations and individuals.
Internal relations and volunteer coordination
Establishing a strong mobilisation requires a strong group. Therefore it is important that someone is responsible for the internal dynamic so the train keeps going. The person responsible for managing internal relations is the person that ensures that sufficient team building activities take place. Occasionally let off steam and speak about something other than trains and bike journeys? Yes we can!
The volunteer coordinator actively looks for new volunteers and he/she is responsible for good management of new members.

The message must be spread: everyone come with us to Paris 2015! The ultimate aim is to get 10,000 people out on the streets. The communication team is responsible for the internal and external communication for Climate Express: social media, reports, newsletters, website, final editing, press, ...
